The story of Marilyn Monroe deserves to be done right. And that may very well mean an NC-17 rating. The upcoming Blonde, which will appear on Netflix this fall, stars sexpot Ana de Armas as the titular bombshell — earns that salacious rating. Now, the film’s first trailer has officially dropped.

‘Blonde’

Blonde is based on the 2000 novel by legendary writer Joyce Carol Oates. It’s one of her most celebrated works.

In Blonde, Oates takes creative liberties in order to chronicle the inner life of a flailing icon. Coming in at over 700 pages, the sheer scale of Blonde reaches beyond the confines of Marilyn Monroe’s life to act as a grander analysis of fame in America. The book takes place from three perspectives: the wholesome Norma Jeane Baker, the celebrity Marilyn Monroe, and finally, the symbolic Blonde.

So how will the film capture this scope?

Apparently, with black-and-white cinematography and Ana de Armas. The Cuban actress, normally a brunette, is transformed in the trailer — though her natural accent lingers. Watch below.

Blonde also co-stars Adrien Brody (as Arthur Miller), Bobby Cannavale (as Joe DiMaggio — I am very excited about this casting), Xavier Samuel (as Charles Chaplin, Jr.), Julianne Nicholson (as Monroe’s mother), and Caspar Phillipson (as John F. Kennedy)

Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Tracey Landon, and Scott Robertson serve as producers.

Blonde will premiere on Netflix on September 28.
