When it comes to how God feels about abortion, Whoopi Goldberg and Elisabeth Hasselbeck appear to have very different translations.

All of it came out on The View. It started when Goldberg and Hasselbeck started talking about Kansas’ decision to uphold the right to an abortion. It was seen as the first test vote on abortion access since the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

Hasselbeck asserted her opinion that, as a Christian, she believes “our creator assigns value to life and that those lives have plan and purpose over them as designed by God that are not limited to the circumstances of conception, nor the situations they’re born into.”

Goldberg cited the Bible saying God, “made us smart enough to know when it wasn’t going to work for us. That’s the beauty of giving us freedom of choice.”

She added, ” “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

Co-host Sarah Haines also quoted from the Bible — kind of, anyway — in supporting Goldberg,

“One thing I did read in the Bible that was enforced over and over and over is, ‘Thou shall not judge.’ You will have your judgment day,” Haines said. “I trust an individual to have their chance at life to make the decision they want and they will meet their maker.”

Hasselbeck served as the conservative voice on The View from 2003-13, returning earlier this week to guest host.

She encouraged pregnant women who can’t care for their newborns to consider adoption or nonprofits. She said, “that wrap around women that might not be able to care for the baby once born.”
