When you think of a leading man, it’s Brad Pitt that comes to mind. Exuding charisma, Pitt broke out in 1991 as a scene-stealing hitchhiker in Thelma & Louise. And since then, the heartthrob has aged gracefully into a stalwart Hollywood mainstay.

Pitt’s 2019 turn in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood… reminded us all that he’s still hunk in his 50s. (Remember the roof scene?!) But over the past few years, he’s been producing more than acting. He served as executive producer on the Oscar-winning Minari, the recent Father of the Bride reboot, and the critically acclaimed Amazon Prime miniseries The Underground Railroad. His production company, Plan B Entertainment, is also slated for more, highly anticipated, projects.

Pitt touches on that fresh direction in a new, illuminating interview in GQ magazine. Speaking to the author Ottessa Moshfegh, Pitt says, quite bluntly: ““I consider myself on my last leg. This last semester or trimester.” He also goes on to wonder, “What is this section gonna be? And how do I wanna design that?”

His production company, Plan B Entertainment, is currently slated for a number of highly anticipated projects. Among them: Women Talking, Americanah, and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. But for Pitt, the answer is deeper and more personal.

“I’m one of those creatures that speaks through art,” He explains in the piece. “I just want to always make. If I’m not making, I’m dying in some way.” He doesn’t just make movies either; Pitt creates sculptures, furniture, and music too. Lately, he’s been waking up early to play guitar. In the interview, which takes a heady turn, Pitt turns his attention on Moshfegh.

“I wanted to ask you, why the f*ck are we here? What’s beyond? Because I gather that you believe in something beyond.… Do you feel trapped here, in this body and in this environment?” He asks her at one point (sounding a bit like a stoned college freshman).

So… it’s safe to say Pitt is… going through some things. But existential crisis aside, you Pitt fans are not out of luck! He does indeed have some acting projects on the horizon, including a starring role in the summer action flick Bullet Train and Babylon, which will premiere on Christmas.
