Bill Nye the Science Groom! Yes, Bill Nye has tied the knot — and not just in his famous bow tie. The man who taught every 90s kid about science, married Liza Mundy, a successful journalist and author, last month in a ceremony at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.

Who is Liza Mundy?

On Wednesday, People broke the news that Bill Nye and Liza Mundy married late last month. The event was held in Washington, D.C. at the Smithsonian Institution’s beautiful Haupt Garden.

In true science nerd fashion, Star Trek actor Robert Picardo officiated the ceremony where Nye and Mundy read those they wrote themselves. According to People‘s inside source, their words were “equal parts moving and comical.”

That’s no surprise for a Nye wedding. The mechanical engineer made a name for himself in the mid-90s with his kooky program, Bill Nye the Science Guy. The syndicated show, which ran for six years, taught children about concepts like gravity, chemistry, and biology through colorful skits.

And it seems like Mundy is his perfect match. The pair met after Nye emailed her about her 2017 book, Code Girls: The Untold Story of the American Women Code Breakers of World War II. In Code Girls, Mundy made mention of Nye’s mother, Jacqueline Jenkins-Nye: a famous cryptanalyst who helped crack Japanese and German codes during the second world war.

Other pieces by Mundy have appeared in the AtlanticPolitico, the New York Times, the New Republic, Slate, the Guardian, and the Washington Post. So, basically everywhere. The writer also has a daughter, Anna, who was present at the wedding, as was Nye’s brother Darby and his lifelong best friend Brian.

According to reports, the bride wore a sleeveless satin gown with a mermaid neckline while the groom wore a black tux with cufflinks that belonged to his father, WWII veteran Edwin D. Nye. And he changed into sparkly sneakers before their first dance, set to “What a Wonderful World.”

Bill Nye’s Disastrous First Marriage

Bill Nye’s wedding to Liza Mundy sounds dreamy. His first marriage, though, was anything but. In 2006, Nye married the musician Blair Tindal — but their relationship ended just seven weeks later and the union was annulled.

Later, Tindall broke into Nye’s house where she stole items, impersonated him over email, and poisoned his garden with herbicide. In 2007, Nye filed a restraining order against her. He also sued her for $57,000 worth of legal fees after she violated the order.
