Michigan natives Carolyn and Andrew Clark welcomed a daughter into the world this past St. Patrick’s Day. However, just her birth alone was not the only reason for the family to celebrate.

The couple’s infant daughter, named Audrey, turns out to be the first girl born on Andrew’s side of the family since 1885. Andrew seemed to not expect that his wife would give birth to a daughter, telling Good Morning America, “It was a huge surprise for all of us.”

Carolyn told Good Morning America, “When we found out we were pregnant, we honestly didn’t care if we were having a boy or girl at that point. We just were thankful to be pregnant and just praying for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby.” Carolyn also revealed that she previously suffered a miscarriage before the birth of Audrey.

Carolyn also spoke to Good Morning America about when she first heard the tale of girls never being born in the Clark family, saying, “I asked his parents to confirm that information, and they’re like, ‘Oh yeah, no, we haven’t had a girl in our direct line.’ He’s had uncles and cousins that have had girls, but in his lineage, there has not been a girl.”

Back in September, Carolyn and Andrew held a gender reveal party with their family. During the party, the couple bit into cookies that would be filled with either blue or pink icing, and to everyone’s surprise, the icing was indeed pink. About the gender reveal, Carolyn said, “It was just icing on the cake that it was a girl.

Regarding the party, Andrew added, “I was shocked. I think I just stared at the center of that cookie like, it’s really pink. So it was a good surprise for us.” On Aubrey’s birth, Carolyn stated, “We’re so happy that she’s finally here and once again, that she’s healthy and that everything went well with the delivery.”
