Ben Affleck Hilariously Gets Mistaken for Matt Damon in New Commercial for Dunkin’ Commercial

Dunkin'

Hot off his recent Super Bowl ad, Movie star and director Ben Affleck has appeared in a second commercial for Dunkin’. This time, the ad is more meta, with Affleck being mistaken for his long-time collaborator and friend, Matt Damon. The new ad promotes Dunkin’s exciting new deal dubbed the Dunkin’ Run campaign, which offers patrons a $1 donut when they purchase a medium or large coffee.

Affleck apparently directed and wrote the 30-second ad. The ad begins with Affleck approaching two Dunkin’ employees and saying, “I’m here for the Dunkin’ Run…campaign, commercial. It’s a great deal — a large coffee, a donut for a buck. I mean, it’s pretty cool.”

Ben Affleck’s New Meta Commerical

As the ad goes on, the two employees shoot Affleck puzzled faces. Affleck continues, saying, “So I thought it would be like authentic and meta — yes, I’m doing the commercial, but am I doing the commercial? You know, I don’t do commercials. I’m a real actor. This is an art form for me.”

The male employee looks at Affleck like he doesn’t recognize the actor at all, while the female employee whispers, “You know, The Departed.” Affleck does not seem to like this implication that he is Matt Damon, to which he replies, “I’m Matt Damon,” while wearing a look of disgust.

While the Dunkin’ workers discuss how good of an actor Damon is, Affleck shakes his head and says, “Nah, I mean some of his work.” As the two employees continue to talk about Damon, Affleck just groans before the ad cuts. The last few seconds of the ad showcase Affleck walking away from Dunkin’ while sipping his coffee, with an accompanied voice-over saying, “Time for a Dunkin’ run,” before reciting the Dunkin’ deal that the ad is promoting.

Affleck’s Dunkin’ commercial for the Super Bowl was also humorous, but seemingly not as scripted. The earlier ad saw Affleck donning the Dunkin’ uniform, posing as an employee of the establishment. When customers would pull up to the drive-thru window, they are mostly shocked to see Affleck working the window.

While speaking to People about the earlier ad, Affleck talked about his fond memories of Dunkin’, saying, “I just took that for granted. I mean, if you were going to get coffee, there was no other coffee place that you would go to.”
