Almost 30 years after it hit theaters, Casper is still a pain in the actor’s side. Christina Ricci is convinced she is “terrible” in the movie, which did well at the box office but divided critics.

She said in a new episode of the podcast WTF With Marc Maron, Ricci elaborated.

“People get so upset when I say that,” she said, as The Huffington Post noted. “I’m like, ‘No, it’s a wonderful movie ‘cause it’s a childhood treasure for people. But I am terrible in it.’”

Ricci starred in Casper early in her career, after playing Addams family daughter Wednesday in 1991’s The Addams Family and 1993’s The Addams Family Values. She was 13 years old.

“There was a lot going on in my life,” she reportedly told Maron. “Everything was very difficult. I was always annoyed, and I just don’t think I tried very hard, to tell you the truth.”

Christina Ricci added that she recently rewatched Casper with her 8-year-old son. Nevertheless, she still didn’t like her performance in the flick.

“And I remember just thinking, ‘Wow. OK. That was not a believable line-reading at all. Just no commitment.’”

Christina Ricci Reunites With The Addams Family

Incidentally, Christina Ricci will go down memory lane later this year when she re-teams with Tim Burton for Netflix’s Addams Family spinoff series, Wednesday.

Her character in the new show is yet-undisclosed. Jenna Ortega will play Wednesday.

Burton, who directed the first Addams Family movie with Ricci, will helm the new Netflix series. He also serves as an executive producer.

Neither Burton nor Ricci had involvements with the Addams Family and Addams Family 2 reboot films that came out in 2019 and 2021, respectively.

Meanwhile, in the new Wednesday series, Luis Guzman will take on the role of Gomez and Catherine Zeta-Jones will appear as Morticia. A teaser for the show came out in early June.
