I know, you’re hoping she said “Rat-aj-kowski,” right? Sorry to disappoint.
“Rat-ah-COF-ska,” said Emily. That’s specific to a female with the surname.
“I’m Polish,” said EmRata. She added that a male would be called “Rat-ah-COF-ski.”
The “jk” in her name is pronounced like a soft “C” or an “S.”
Emily Ratajkowski commented on the Tori Burch TikTok page with an extra bone for anyone still feeling confused about how to pronounce her name. She put 3 emojis: a rat, a cow, and skis. Of course, that might actually further throw people off, because according to her, it’s not “Rat-ah-COW-ski,” it’s “Rat-ah-COF-ski” or “Rat-ah-COF-ska.”
“Liana and I are both Eastern European so I was being playful! This is how you say it in Polish!” Emily added.
Emily Ratajkowski Identifies as Polish-Israeli With Some Irish
The High Low podcaster has touched on her ethnic roots in the past. She told Allure that she’s Polish-Israeli. Some of her Polish ancestry is specifically Polish-Jewish.
Ratajkowski also has strong ties to her Irish ancestry as well. “I absolutely love Ireland. It’s one of the most beautiful places on earth and I have strong ties here,” she told Ireland’s Independent Woman. “Both my grandmothers are from Ireland and I have spent every summer in Bantry since my father, who is an artist, had the romantic idea 20 years ago to buy an old farmhouse on the west coast and renovate it.”
She said that she keeps in touch with her Irish friends. “I go back any time I get the opportunity and I have many friends who I still hang out with in the local pubs,” she said. “I have great childhood memories cow-tipping, going off and getting lost in the bog for hours and coming home covered in dirt.”
Ratajkowski added that she’s “more of a Smithwick’s or Bulmer’s girl” than a Guinness girl. Also, she said she’s prone to picking up “a bit of an Irish lilt” after she has a couple drinks in her.

The supermodel has had quite the range of experiences adding to her heritage. She was born in London on June 7, 1991. She told New York Times that her mom, Kathleen Balgley, was very “permissive” when she was a child, and often visited topless beaches in Majorca.
Emily Ratajkowski moved to California when she was 5 years old. Her mom taught at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo and her father, John Ratajkowski, was an art teacher at San Dieguito Academy. They lived in Encinitas, which is probably where EmRata gets her “SoCal” side from. The laid back, relatable part of her that also fits right in everywhere she goes.
Of course, it would be impossible to truly pinpoint the feminist icon’s traits. She’s got a little bit of a lot of things going on and some of that may be inherited while some of it could just be her own unique self. And, just to reiterate, she specifically identifies as Polish. Some of her childhood was in England, some was in Ireland, and the bulk of her upbringing was in California. The latter is also where she started acting as a kid. And these days, the multi-hyphenate super babe splits her time between LA and New York.
