Joanna Gaines isn’t having the jolliest of holiday seasons this year.
The reality-TV home designer revealed late Wednesday that she is recovering from surgery for a back issue. The injury stems all the way back to her days as a high school cheerleader, according to Gaines’ recent post on Instagram.
Gained referred to the problem as “basically a basket toss turned back injury” that continued to pain her well into adulthood.
Specifically, she underwent a microdiscectomy for a disc problem two weeks ago.
“I’ve always joked that my back likes to act up at the most inconvenient times, and I was a bit stressed [because] of the timing of it all with the holiday season,” Gaines wrote.
That said, she told her Instagram followers that she’s trying to look on the bright side.
“I’m truly grateful for the forced rest during the busiest time of the year,” she said. “It has been a gift to simply stay put, stare at the wonder all around, and just be still.”
She also used the post as an opportunity to share her thoughts that unexpected events such as hers don’t necessarily have to wreck a person celebration of Christmas.
“It may not all go as planned — but may you find the beauty and embrace the wonder of the here and now,” Joanna Gaines concluded in the post.
Chip and Joanna Gaines’ December to Remember
Joanna Gaines made her recent surgery public about two weeks after a former literary agent slapped her and husband Chip Gaines with a lawsuit for breach of contract.
Their ex-agent, David Vigliano, is seeking at least $1 million from the reality-TV personalities after they allegedly reneged on a five-book deal.
His suit alleges that the first two books went according to plan. Then, however, Chip and Joanna Gaines allegedly “concocted a scheme” to try to change the terms of the deal.
