Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell, the 28-year-old daughter of Mama June Shannon, has been diagnosed with stage 4 adrenal carcinoma. According to People, the diagnosis came after a series of tests prompted by Cardwell’s complaints of stomach aches, which revealed cancer in her liver, kidney, and lung.

Cardwell, who previously appeared on TLC’s Toddlers & Tiaras and Here Comes Honey Boo Boo alongside her mother and sister Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson, recently began chemotherapy. According to TMZ, although her diagnosis is serious, the Cardwell family remains optimistic and doctors are waiting to see how she responds to her treatment before making any further decisions.

Cardwell’s biological father is David Dunn, who was never featured on the family’s reality TV shows. Cardwell is also a mother of two children. Her first daughter, Kaitlyn Elizabeth, was born in 2012, while her second daughter, Kylee Madison, was born in 2015 to her ex-husband Michael Cardwell. After three years together, the couple separated in 2017. Her most recent partner was Eldridge Toney, whom she made her relationship public with on Instagram in April 2019.
A few days prior to the news of Cardwell’s health diagnosis being made public, the reality TV personality made a comeback on Instagram by sharing a new selfie since July 2022.
 “Well I ain’t posted here in a while,” she stated. “Your girl is back sorry for the photo dump that’s going to happen hahah I love y’all and I hope y’all hope y’all are having a good week #imback #2023 #tiktok.”
After the post, she went on to receive an outpouring of good wishes and support from her 216,000 followers.
However, Cardwell and Mama June have made it pretty known they have had a strained relationship since 2003 when Cardwell left her mother’s home and moved in with her grandmother following an assault by Mama June’s then-boyfriend, who was a registered sex offender named Mark McDaniel. In a 2014 interview with PEOPLE, Anna revealed that McDaniel had “tried to touch me and all that stuff” when she was only 8 years old.
“A week or so after it happened, I talked to Mama and she was upset, crying and saying, ‘I don’t believe you, I don’t believe you, why would you do this to me?’ ” Cardwell revealed to PEOPLE. “And I was like, ‘Mama, he did that to me and I can’t do anything about it. You were never there to see it. You were always at work.’ “
Cardwell ultimately returned to her mom’s home in 2012 a few months ahead of the premiere of the family’s spinoff Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. “Me and Mama realized we needed to put this behind us and get our relationship back on track and that’s what we did and that’s what we have been doing,” Anna stated.
