Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck’s children have been notoriously shielded from the public eye. They got married in 2005, separated in 2015, and finalized their divorce in 2018. But although the couple is no longer together, they’ve managed to co-parent and raise three amazing kids.

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner’s Decade-Long Marriage
In an interesting twist, Ben Affleck was once engaged to Jennifer Lopez, many years ago. But he met Jennifer Garner while engaged to Lopez and called the engagement off, marrying Garner instead. He proposed to Garner on her 33rd birthday in April 2005, according to US Magazine. They got married in June and Garner had Violet in December. That means that there was a good chance that Garner was pregnant when Affleck proposed to her.
For years, Garner was gushing over her marriage and family life. She’s on the record talking about how much she loved Affleck on numerous occasions.
“Ben is not only my husband, he has helped me in every way,” Garner told The Sun in February 2012. “He is the base of my life. He is an incredibly loving and generous man.”
“I don’t know how or why it works as well as it does,” she told InStyle in January 2011. “Honestly, I would do anything for that man, because I know it’s not taken for granted.”
Affleck reciprocated the love and adoration. In January 2013, he told Access Hollywood that Garner is “the most beautiful woman out there.”
And in 2014, Affleck said that Garner “is by leaps and bounds the most important person to me.”

But it wasn’t long after that rumors started circulating that they were having trouble. They separated soon after and finalized their divorce after three years. They’d had a 10-year run together and were in love and made three amazing humans together.
Affleck, as many know, actually rekindled his love with Jennifer Lopez. The two finally went through with tying the knot, getting married in July 2022. Affleck had proposed to Lopez that April while she was in the bath.
Garner and Affleck’s children attended the wedding ceremony, as did Jennifer Lopez’s kids. Jennifer Garner wasn’t there, but according to Page Six, she was happy to see Affleck remarry. A source close to Garner and Affleck referred to Affleck as Garner’s “fourth child.”
“Jen is a great mother, she has really mothered those kids — and it’s great that she doesn’t have to have a fourth child anymore,” said the source. They added that they thought Garner wanted to work it out, however.
“Jen grew up with her parents happily married and her sisters are married, so I know that she wanted it to work out. But she’s moved on,” they said.
Jennifer Garner Is Protective of Her Kids
As we mentioned before, it’s hard to find many photos or information out there about Garner and Affleck’s kids. You’ll see tons of photos of Garner campaigning for other kids and kid products, but she keeps hers protected from the camera.
In fact, Jennifer Garner testified in front of the California State Assembly in 2013 to try to enact anti-paparazzi laws protecting the children of celebrities. She was joined by Halle Berry and Kristen Bell, and eventually, new laws were put in place protecting famous children from harassment and stalking.
During her testimony, Garner said that her children were often terrified when they were out doing errands.
“My 17-month-old baby is terrified and cries. My four-year-old says, ‘Why do these men never smile? Why do they never go away? Why are they always with us?'” She added that mentally-ill people could easily join groups of paparazzi and get dangerously close to her family.
Hence, in some publications, you’ll see that Garner and Affleck’s kids’ faces have been blurred out. However, the internet is a big place, and they’re not trying to hide under a rock. So here is what we know about Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel Affleck.
Violet
Violet Affleck was born on December 1, 2005, in Los Angeles, California. That makes her 16 going on 17 and almost an adult!
Violet is often said to be her mom’s lookalike. They do look very similar! According to In Touch Weekly, an insider close to the family says that Violet also shares many personality traits with her mom.
“Violet [is] a real mommy’s girl,” said the source to In Touch. “Not only does she look identical to Jen, [but] they share similar personality traits, too, like their passion for cooking.”
The source added that Violet also looks out for her younger siblings.
“Violet’s extremely protective of Seraphina and Samuel and really watches out for her siblings,” said the insider. “She’s extremely mature for her age.”
Violet also likes wearing makeup but often takes it off before leaving the house. And Ben Affleck has gushed over her eldest daughter’s Spanish skills while on The Kelly Clarkson Show.
“She’s always been a very good student, and she’s been interested in Spanish, and so I would often help her,” said Affleck. “Now, all of a sudden, she’s gotten into the grade where she’s, like, in the harder Spanish classes and she’s getting better. She’s right at the point where I think she might be passing me.”
Seraphina
Seraphina Affleck was born January 6, 2009, making her 13 years old.
The middle-child has been photographed going to salons with her mom in the past along with her little brother, Samuel. Seraphina is usually seen wearing tomboyish clothing and rocking a short pixie haircut. An insider source told In Touch that “Seraphina is adorable and super outgoing. She has more of a mischievous streak than the other two and is incredibly close to Ben.”
Seraphina is definitely independent and mature for her age, too. Last year, when she was only 12, the pap caught photos of her getting picked up from the airport by her dad. And she seems to get along great with her stepsister, Emme, whom she’s been seen walking with and holding hands. Cute!
Samuel
Samuel Affleck was born February 27, 2012, making him 10 years old.
The only boy of the trio, Samuel has been getting into a bit of mischief as of late. He loves hanging out with his dad and, like Ben, Samuel enjoys sports. He plays baseball and Ben once said that he coached his son’s Little League team.
“I’m a coach on the Little League team and it’s going great,” Affleck told Ellen DeGeneres in 2019 “He’s awesome, it’s a lot of fun. The kids are great kids. I do have to wear a Dodgers hat, because that is the team, but you know … ”
On June 26, Samuel and his pops made headlines when it got out that Ben Affleck had let little Samuel drive his Lamborghini at an LA dealership. Samuel subsequently crashed the car into a BMW while in reverse. Luckily, no one got hurt. But momma bear wasn’t happy about it!
