This film is directed and written by Nia Vardalos. The star-studded cast is filled with names like John Corbett, Maria Vacratsis, Andrea Martin, Louis Mandylor, Lainie Kazan, Joey Fatone, Elias Kacavas, Gia Carides, and Elena Kampouris.
A few new faces like Melina Kotselou and Elias Kacavas will be joining the cast. A few off-screen returns include Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, and Gary Goetzman as producers of the film.
Many Anticipations
The cast hopped on a flight to Athens, Greece to shoot the upcoming film and fans are eager to see how this beautiful landscape will make its re-debut on screen. Sources say that the surrounding islands were also involved in the making of the film.
Though a storyline has yet to be revealed, viewers have been promised nods to original and fun-loving adventure for everyone to enjoy.
“I am overwhelmed with emotions, so much relief and gratitude all day, and now hot tears are pouring down my face,” Vardalos shared in a post on Instagram when filming wrapped in August 2022.
The original movie was based on a one-woman play that Vardalos wrote in the nineties. In My Big Fat Greek Wedding, the film follows the story of Toula Portokalos, a Greek-American woman who strives to break free from her traditional Greek family’s expectations.
When Toula falls in love with a non-Greek man, Ian Miller, her family is shocked and Toula must choose between her family’s traditions and her own desires. With the help of her extended family, Toula is able to find a way to balance her family’s expectations with her own wishes.
