This group is establishing a 1.2 million-square-foot studio in Markham, Ontario, Canada. A real estate development coalition by the name of the Watford Group is the top investor with a $1.5 billion contribution. This equity fund focuses as real estate, sports, media, and venture capital. This studio is the first of their projects.
Ryan Reynolds released a statement about the project. “Maximum Effort has grown in ways and directions that we’ve never imagined. To be launching a fund and building a 1.2 million-square-foot studio facility in Ontario is both mind-boggling and humbling. Regardless, I’m excited to expand our storytelling capabilities in new directions and to bring more production work to Ontario.”
Breaking Ground
Construction of the studio is set to begin soon. A completion date hasn’t been set. The facility is a production compound featuring an integrated suite of services for film-making, scripted and unscripted reality television productions, drama series as well as live-action and animated feature films. It will also provide vocational training via its virtual production campus – offering opportunities for skilled professionals in multiple disciplines.
This isn’t the first time that Dewey and Reynolds have worked together. They collaborated on the “Deadpool” movies and they have production credits for “Free Guy,” “The Adam Project,” “Shotgun Wedding,” and “Spirited.”
Maximum Effort also worked on a docu-series “Welcome to Wrexham.” This storyline follows Rob McElhenney Reynolds as he purchases the Welsh soccer club Wrexham AFC.
Details of what projects will be filmed on the studio’s property have yet to be released.
