Vin Diesel may have a tough exterior, but the father of three is all love on the inside. The Fast & Furious star and producer once told People that his pride for his kids “is through the roof” and they “move [him] to tears all the time.” But it was his late co-star Paul Walker who truly helped guide Vin to embrace fatherhood. He made such a deep impact on Vin Diesel that he named his youngest daughter after Paul Walker.

Paul Walker’s Daughter Was Born in 1998
Vin Diesel has been in a relationship with Mexican model Paulina Jimenez since 2007. The couple has three children together.
Although Vin Diesel is six years older than Paul Walker would be if he was alive today, Walker had a child much earlier in his life. Walker made his Hollywood debut in 1986 and was a full-blown heart throb by the time Fast & Furious came around. In 1998, he had a daughter, Meadow, with his childhood sweetheart Rebecca Soteros — although they broke up earlier in Meadow’s life. Walker wasn’t ready to commit and Soteros moved with Meadow to Hawaii until she turned 13 and moved in with her famous dad in California.
Paul Walker tragically passed away in 2013 after a horrible car crash in Santa Clarita, California. Meadow was still a teenager at the time and the loss of her father led to a big custody battle.
Vin Diesel Says Paul Walker Guided Him Into Fatherhood
Although his time with his daughter was cut short, Paul Walker knew how important it was to be there in his child’s life. It was he who first imparted this knowledge to Vin Diesel.
“[Walker] went into fatherhood a lot earlier than I did,” Vin Diesel told Today. “He took on that role of kind of being the guide into fatherhood for me. It’s kind of beautiful.”
It all started in 2008. The two actors were filming Fast & Furious 4.
“[Similce] was born while we were shooting Fast 4” Diesel later recalled. “It was a long day, where Pablo and I were fighting each other in this scene.”
Pablo is Vin Diesel’s nickname for Paul.
“He came to my trailer at the end of the day and said, ‘Something is on your mind,’” Diesel continued. “I had a secret. I wasn’t telling anyone in the world that my daughter was about to be born.”
That’s when Paul Walker got real with his friend.
Walker Told Diesel to Go Cut His Eldest Child’s Umbilical Cord
“I’ll never forget what he said to me. He said, ‘Vin, you go into that hospital room, and you cut the umbilical cord. It will be the best day of your life.’ That’s the day that she was born. I say that because that’s how real the themes of family hood run in the Fast & Furious saga, and why I am so proud.”
Similce (also known as Hania) is now an actress herself and has appeared in Fast & Furious Spy Racers. But she’s not the only child in the Diesel brood to be inextricably tied to the franchise and Paul Walker. Her brother Vincent was born during the filming of Fast & Furious 5. Once again, Walker urged his co-star to go to his family.
He Urged Him to Go to His Son’s Birth, Too
“The one thing Paul always wanted me to do was be present at … my child’s birth,” Diesel told Today. “He was so adamant about it… He was like, ‘We can film later … You have to go now.’ And he was right.”
Like his older sister, Vincent has also been a part of the Fast & Furious franchise. He made his acting debut on Fast & Furious 9, playing the part of Vin Diesel’s younger character, Dominic Toretto.
Vin Diesel Named His Third Child After Paul Walker After He Passed Away
Vin Diesel’s youngest child was born after Paul Walker passed away. But after all the influence Walker had on him, Diesel couldn’t forget what his late friend had once told him.
“He was in the room,” Diesel told Today about the day his youngest daughter was born. He named her Paulina to honor his friend. “There’s no other person that I was thinking about as I was cutting this umbilical cord. It felt like, you know, a way to keep his memory as a part of my family and a part of my world.”
