The verdict is in, Law & Order: SVU fans: Kelli Giddish is leaving the show.
Giddish, who played Amanda Rollins on the crime drama, was part of the show’s main cast from Seasons 13 to Season 23. She appeared in 226 episodes in total. She will leave the program at some point in Season 24, per TVLine.
Giddish posted a lengthy message about her departure from Law & Order: SVU on her Instagram account Wednesday.
“I wanted to address the chatter I’ve seen online and let everyone know that this will, indeed, be my last season on ‘Law & Order: SVU,’” she said. “Playing Rollins has been one of the greatest joys and privileges of my life. I’ve been so fortunate to be a part of the ‘Law & Order’ family for the last 12 years. There is simply no other character on TV like Rollins. She’s grown and changed, and I have as well. I started on this show when I was in my late 20s and I’m grateful I got to spend so many of my adult years with Rollins in my life.”
Additionally, Giddish thanked a slew of people and organizations for their help over the past 12 years.
She concluded: “I’m so excited to take all the things I have learned in my time on ‘SVU’ and put them toward everything that’s next to come….”
The Future Of ‘Law & Order: SVU’
The latest season of Law & Order: SVU premieres September 22 at 9 p.m. on NBC.
NBC’s website is already hyping the show’s return. The homepage for Law & Order: SVU features just one character: Olivia Benson. Played by Mariska Hargitay, Benson is the only cast member featured in the main cast every season since she show began.
A tagline for the new season appears next to Benson on NBC’s promo.
“Capt. Benson and her NYPD squad fight for justice in cases ripped straight from the headlines,” it says.
