The 71-years-young Kurt Russell will co-star with son Wyatt Russell in the live-action show, per Variety’s Wednesday report. Matthew Shakman, who helmed the Marvel TV show WandaVision, will direct.

The Russells reportedly join Anna Sawai, Rea Watabe, Joe Tippett, and other previously announced cast members.

The yet-untitled program is part of the MonsterVerse franchise that also includes King Kong. Legendary Entertainment produces the fictional universe.

Wyatt Russell’s recent TV credits include Under the Banner of Heaven, a recent miniseries starring Andrew Garfield. The true-crime show initially appeared on FX on Hulu and is due to premiere on Disney+ (Star) overseas.

Wyatt Russell also starred in TV’s Lodge 49 and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, a Marvel miniseries.

For his own part, Kurt Russell lent his voice to two episodes of the Disney+ series What If…? Aside from the Marvel Comics animated show, he hasn’t appeared on the small screen since 1980. That year saw the release of the drama Amber Waves, in which he played a starring role.

However, the elder Russell is no stranger to the big screen. Most recently, he played Mr. Nobody in the last three Fast and the Furious movies. He also appeared in Quentin Tarantino’s 2019 film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Meanwhile, Godzilla and Kong frequently dominate the big screen too. Starting in 2014, one or both monsters anchored four smash hits in theaters.

The films include Godzilla (2014), Kong: Skull Island (2017), Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019), and Godzilla vs. Kong (2021). Each one grabbed handfuls of cash at the box office — at least $386.6 million.

An untitled Godzilla vs. Kong sequel is set for release on March 15, 2024. Adam Wingard (You’re Next, Godzilla vs. Kong) will direct. A screenwriter is not yet publicly known.
