Getting food poisoning before an intercontinental flight is one of the worst times it could happen. Meghan Reinertsen, TikToker and actor, went into great detail about her emergency bathroom experience that ended up having a flight canceled.

The flight for Reinersten was always going to be a slog. It was a multi-leg route from Faro, Portugal, to Indianapolis. At three AM, the journey began, from Faro to Lisbon. This leg wasn’t so bad, but she did notice a few rumblings in her gut, according to TikTok.
The next flight, from Lisbon to Newark, was where things began to get a little dodgy, and she realized an in-flight bathroom break might be necessary. As she put it, she felt a “disturbance deep within her bowels.” Whatever was going on in there wasn’t friendly, and she knew it wasn’t going to be avoided.
Typically, Reinersten said, she wouldn’t use an airplane toilet. Instead, she would simply wait. And, until she made it to touchdown in Newark, she managed to ignore the cramping. Here, despite the pain, she made it through customs and check-in, determined not to miss her final leg of the journey.
But once she sat down, in a window seat no less, her food poisoning decided it was time. Her mind began conjuring up images of the woman who went to the bathroom while running up the aisle of a Delta Airlines flight. She wasn’t about to do that.
Hour And A Half In Flight Bathroom Break
Breaking her rule about pooping on a plane, Meghan Reinersten rushed to the closest available bathroom. Just in time, she managed to sit on the mile-high throne. “For the next 20 minutes, I have more diarrhea than any human should ever have in their life,” she explained in her video. “My bowels are just filling with water, releasing, filling with water – not water, diarrhea – releasing. It is now at a point where I go, ‘I’m about to throw up!’ But I’m in a 2×2 shoebox broom closet.”
But it’s food poisoning, and the body ejects the offending items from both ends. In the tiny cubicle, she needs to somehow vomit as well. Opening the bathroom door, she calls for help from a flight attendant. They supplied her with sick bags, and she locked in for the remainder of the flight.
For 90 minutes, she was sick and experiencing diarrhea. The pilot even went so far as to give her permission to stay in the bathroom as the flight came into land. It wasn’t until all the other passengers had left that she finally left the cubicle, maybe out of shame, maybe due to her gut.
Due to her bathroom debacle, the next scheduled flight had to be canceled.
