Johnny Depp back as Jack Sparrow? An industry insider has just revealed to Australian news outlet Poptopic that Disney really wants Johnny Depp back for Pirates of the Caribbean 6.
Disney may have offered Depp a massive contract to return to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. And the dollar amount on that contract seems to be a bit of an inside joke, because it relates to the Depp-Heard trial.
“The fact is, Mr. Depp, if Disney came to you with $300 million and a million alpacas, nothing on this earth would get you to go back and work with Disney on a Pirates of the Caribbean film? Correct?”
Depp replied, “That is true, Mr. Rottenborn.”
It turns out that of course Disney executives were listening, because they’ve allegedly offered Depp not $300 Million but $301 Million. They’ve also thrown in a “sizable donation to a charity of Depp’s choice,” per Poptopic.
There Were No Alpacas Mentioned In The Pirates Deal, Though.
The insider said, “Disney are very interested in patching up their relationship with Johnny Depp. They reached out to the actor prior to his defamation trial against Amber Heard and asked whether he would be interested in returning for another Pirates film or two.
“I know corporate sent him a gift basket with a very heartfelt letter,” the insider continued, “but I’m unsure how it was received. But what I can tell you is that the studio has already penned up a draft for a film about Jack Sparrow — so they are very hopeful that Johnny will forgive them and return as his iconic character.”
Disney has been gearing up to film Pirates of the Caribbean 6 for some time now. Jerry Bruckheimer told Sunday Times that they were making multiple scripts, one which featured Margot Robbie as the lead. She was going to be a female replacement for Depp’s Jack Sparrow character.
But when asked if Depp might return, Bruckheimer responded, “Not at this point.”
There May Be A Spinoff Disney+ Series, Too
But it seems like Disney has turned a 180. Depp may return as Jack Sparrow after all. What’s more, there is also rumor of a Disney+ series about Jack Sparrow’s early life, according to the Poptopic insider.
