But have you ever wondered what it looks like in there when running?
If you answered “no,” well, you’re about to find out anyway, thanks to a video from Warped Perception.
Yes, a video and some food-covered plates were placed inside the dishwasher, all for the purpose of showing the process. As expected, it involved lots of spraying and twirling water and some serious steam.

As the video revealed, things start off relatively slow with a light rinse, much like at a car wash. But then it picks up considerably, as the video takes you through the whole process — from the rinse cycle to the wash cycle to the dispensing of soap to the high-pressure wash to the heating and sanitizing.
Oh, and in the case of this powerful dishwasher, a final rinse and drain.
So, there you have it. Everything you never wanted to know about what takes place inside the dishwasher. But in case you skipped the video, just know that there really is a method behind the magic.
But, we weren’t the only ones who were curious about what goes on during cycles. Several Youtube users were just as stunned as us to learn the truth. Othes poked at the situation, joking about how the footage was caught. “Hats off to the cameraman, risking his life, almost drowning and getting scalded alive just to provide us with this footage. Thank you.” one user commented.
Another one noted, “The secret I’ve been wanting to know for years. They should make dishwashers with glass doors so we can see.”
“As someone who has lived in NYC their entire life in a tiny ass apartment and never had a dishwasher, the question of how they work has been killing me literally my entire life. Thank you,” another one noted.
