Cindy Crawford and her husband Rande Gerber certainly know how to work as a team. The former models (yes, both of them!) have two adult children together and have been married for 25 years. For Crawford and Gerber, teamwork usually means embracing traditional gender roles at home.

Cindy Crawford Has Been Married to Casamigos Co-Founder Rande Gerber Since 1998

Cindy Crawford is legendary in the fashion world. One of the first-ever official supermodels, she’s been married twice — formerly to actor Richard Gere, and then to Rande Gerber.

Rande is one of the three co-founders of Casamigos, the “George Clooney” tequila brand. The entrepreneur / real estate investor has been heavily invested in the nightlife industry for decades. Not lacking in the looks department himself, it’s not surprising that his and Crawford’s children (Kaia and Presley) also grew up to be models.

Crawford Is Pretty Zen About Femininity

Cindy Crawford has never been one to raise her hackles when it comes to being feminine. On the contrary, she’s actually an advocate of embracing your feminine side. And while Kaia Jordan Gerber has spoken about her famous mother’s feminism, it’s not so much a guns-blazing sort of philosophy. For Cindy Crawford, feminism has always meant just staying true to yourself. That’s been on the forefront of her mind when raising a daughter to be strong and independent.

Kaia echoed this to Elle. “I think feminism is just being confident in who you are and standing up for yourself,” she said.

The most obvious example in that context was fashion, but hey, why can’t we talk about household chores, too? When you live with someone for 25 years, there’s bound to be some patterns. People’s messes get left behind and things need to be fixed. It’s part of running a household.

There’s a give and take.

Crawford’s Husband Rande Gerber Takes Care of the Household Repairs

“I was going to joke and say I can barely get him to pick up a wet towel, which is partly true, but I will say if something around the house needs repair — he’ll repair it if he knows how,” Cindy Crawford told People.

“You know, if the air conditioning’s not working, [Rande] deals with that,” Crawford continued. “Or if there’s a patch of grass that needs replacing. So, I would say we’re pretty good at divvying up the responsibilities of life.”

Fair enough. It’s hard to gauge which is more work: spot-cleaning the kitchen cabinets or repairing a toilet. But that can be subjective. Maybe it all has to do with confidence in what you can and cannot do.

“I’m definitely more in charge of making sure there are groceries in the house and menu planning, the schedule, making appointments and that kind of stuff,” Crawford explained.

The supermodel has previously opened up about being decisive and consistent. “I’m a very decisive person so I actually don’t really find it hard to make decisions and I also make a decision and I stick to it. And I move on. I’m very consistent. I don’t torture myself over making choices,” she told Prestige. That’s a great quality for someone who keeps all her loved ones’ lives in order!

Crawford and Gerber Embrace the Traditional & Know Kindness Is Key

For Gerber and her, the balance of it all equates to keeping up “more traditional roles.” That has its own perks, too. For instance, he still romances her with beautiful flowers. Every year for her birthday, Gerber buys his wife pale peach roses (her favorite).

When it comes to their kids, Crawford told People that she and Gerber never separated them at a “kids table.” Instead, the opted to just teach them traditional values and morals but from a more mature perspective. “I think because of that, they’re very comfortable in most life situations,” she said.

The conscious awareness of raising children to be adults, and instilling in them a certain set of values, isn’t new for Cindy Crawford. That’s been her modus operandi throughout motherhood.

“I think that kids, in my experience, learn by example,” the supermodel told TheLeapTV. “I always talk about in Peanuts, like Charlie Brown, when all the adults talk, all you hear is ‘rah rah, rah rah, rah rah.’ And I really think that’s how kids listen to adults… Young kids… they watch what you do, they see how you treat people. They see how you handle stress. And I think that’s the way we teach our children.”

For Crawford and Gerber, the most important value that can be imparted is kindness.

“So, my husband and I both, when another person comes and says, ‘Your kid is so nice, or so kind to my child,’” she said. “… It’s great if their good in school or at sports or whatever, but it’s really about how they treat themselves and how they treat other people.”
