It’s been 30 years since we were first introduced to The Mighty Ducks. Therefore, 30 years since those very Ducks won the peewee hockey tournament.

And after two follow-ups, and a Disney+ series, guess what’s on the way? That’s right, another season of The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers. And this season will feature a new coach, played by a new actor.

The character is Coach Colin Cole, who will be portrayed by Josh Duhamel. Cole arrives from an elite Los Angeles summer hockey program and replaces coach Gordon Bombay (Emilio Estevez).

But summer hockey isn’t exactly tons of fun for our beloved Ducks. Instead, their ideas of low-stakes offseason enjoyment is actually “more of an intensive training program for future NHL players than a fun few weeks on the ice with friends,” wrote Entertainment Weekly.

Anyway, a lot of people are asking what became of Estevez, the coach in each of the three films and Season 1 of the Disney+ show.

Well, it seems the studio decided to replace him over contention over the show’s COVID vaccination requirement.

“The actor, who also served as an executive producer on the show, reportedly would not confirm whether he would comply with the vaccine mandate,” Entertainment Weekly wrote.

That said, Estevez has come out and said that he is far from “anti-vaxx.” He also said in a statement to EW that his departure is the result of “a good old fashioned contract dispute” and “creative differences.”

Either way, the Ducks are back and from the sounds of things, they’ll be every bit as much fun as ever.
