Blake Lively Says Their Kids Give Strength To She And Ryan Reynolds

In an interview with Forbes, actress Blake Lively talks about the confidence she and husband, Ryan Reynolds, get from their kids. There’s something about raising kids, perhaps watching them find their own autonomy, that can make a human know a little more about themselves. This is definitely the case for Blake and Ryan.

Blake told Forbes, “Once I had children, that just became even more profound because my time was even more precious, but also, I think having children for me made me feel so much more in my skin. I never felt more myself or at ease in my own body or more confident—not to say that there aren’t a bevy of insecurities coming at me a million times a day, but I just feel incredibly settled.”

This idea of feeling settled has transferred into Blake’s professional life as well. She started a mixer brand, Lively’s Betty Buzz, with the idea of partnering with Ryan’s Aviation American Gin company. She says “everything we do, we do together, for better or worse.”

Apparently, Blake doesn’t drink, but she loves to play mixologist. So that act of constantly creating inspired her to not just make a brand but become a creator.

Creating kids, creating drinks, autonomy—these lead Blake to talk about authorship.

She told Forbes, “Authorship is a huge thing. I began acting when I was 16 years old and when you begin acting, you’ll take whatever job you can get. With opportunity if you’re fortunate enough, you’re able to be a little bit more selective about your jobs—but even once you’re there, as an actor, you are very often just a ‘person-for-hire’ versus the person telling the story or the person leading the way.”

Blake says that becoming a mom helped her step into the role of creator and author. The Hollywood Reporter recently revealed that she’s currently in the process of her directorial debut with the movie Seconds. It’s an adaptation of the graphic novel by Scott Pilgrim creator, Bryan Lee O’Malley.
