MLB Player Slaps Another During Warm-Ups Over Fantasy Football, Benches Clear

Tommy Pham slapped Joc Pederson, Will Smith style, during pregame warm ups in a game between the Cincinnati Red and San Francisco Giants. He received a three-game suspension for the incident.

And, it happened not because of anything that actually happened on the field … oh, no… it was because of a fantasy football transaction. Wait, transaction? Not a game? Or the whole league season? ONE transaction.

“I slapped Joc,” Pham said on Saturday. “He said some shit I don’t condone. I had to address it.

“… It was regarding my former team (Padres). I didn’t like that and I didn’t like the sketchy shit going on in the fantasy. We had too much money on the line, so I look at it like there’s a code. You’re fvcking with my money, then you’re going to say some disrespectful shit; there’s a code to this.”

According to Pederson, it all went down because Pham had accused him of cheating during the season. More specifically, it was for placing a player on injured reserve and replacing him with a free agent, when it was an error with the system and the player was not on IR, just out for the week. Pederson said that the player he put on IR had been ruled out for that week, which he believed had made it a legal move. He also said that Pham had done (essentially) the same thing with his team previously in the season.

Pederson also added that he certainly did not know Pham was going to do anything like this during the series in Cincinnati.

“It was a surprise,” Pederson said on Friday. “There was no real argument. He kind of came up and said, ‘Like, I don’t know if you remember from last year.’ And I was like, ‘Fantasy football.’ He was like, ‘Yeah.'”
