Jeremy Strong Met His Wife Emma Wall at a Party in 2012
Emma Wall and Jeremy Strong met in 2012 while at a party in New York. Strong was four years into his acting career at the time while Wall was pursuing her own career. They married in 2016 at Dragsholm Slot castle in Zealand, Denmark. The couple shares three children together and split their time between New York and Copenhagen.
“I love Denmark. I find it a very sane and gentle place,” Strong once told The Guardian. “It feels like a refuge for me, and it’s great to have somewhere that’s a docking station after all this work, which I find very enervating and scary and stressful.”
Strong showed The Guardian how he was proudly wearing Danish clothing but admitted that he’s not great at speaking the country’s language.
“The truth is — and my wife knows this, so it’s OK for me to say, I think — I have an almost pathological lack of curiosity about most things,” Strong said about learning another language. “But when it comes to work, I’m inexhaustible. So, if I had to learn Danish for a part, I would.”
Emma Wall Is a Child Psychiatrist
Emma Wall was born in Denmark but later received her BA in Psychology at Brown University in Rhode Island. She graduated with Honors from Oxford Medical School and did further graduate work with Columbia and Cornell. Wall currently works as a child psychiatrist and has volunteered around the world while working at hospitals and with refugees. Her most recent work was with UCLA and the LA foster care system.
She’s a Documentary Filmmaker
Like her famous hubby, Emma Wall also works with film. She is a co-founder of Guest House Productions (GHP) and a documentary filmmaker. Wall and her GHP co-founder Betsy Hershey co-directed Guerilla Habeas, a documentary about lawyers fighting for immigrants in US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facilities. The documentary premiered in September 2022 at the Telluride Film Festival. It was featured on MSNBC’s Turning Point series in February 2023.
Emma Wall’s Documentary Is About the Plight of Immigrants In the US ICE System
Guerilla Habeas follows the heartbreaking journey of immigrants Baba Sillah, Kinimo Ngoran, and Nirna Pierre-Paul as lawyers Sarah Gillman and Gregory Copeland try to reunite them with their families. Wall told Deadline that they began filming during the Trump presidency, when deportations were at an all-time high and news of cruel conditions was coming out.
“We started on this film at a time when I think so many of us were really appalled by what was happening in the immigration system,” Wall said. “So we started this in the beginning of 2019, following the Muslim ban, following Trump’s zero-tolerance policy that was separating families at the border.”
She added that many people were feeling hopeless about what was going on as news of human rights violations was coming out.
“During those years in the Trump administration, lots of activists in the non-citizen community, people participating in films were being targeted and were being deported for their involvement, and so we wanted to be really careful in terms of how we told this story because it’s a difficult one to share,” she said.
She Is a Human Rights Activist
Although the documentary initially covered events that occurred during the Trump administration, Wall wants people to know that these issues haven’t gone away. Many of these inhumane conditions are still present under the Biden administration.
“The system remains,” Wall said. “The system that is allowing what’s happening in this film remains. So, until we fix the underlying issues, it’s not going to matter who is in charge of the government because what we need is to keep families together in a system that is going to ensure everyone’s safety.”
Jeremy Strong Has Three Daughters with Wife Emma Wall
Emma Wall and Jeremy Strong have three daughters together. They work together to make space for their family despite their busy schedules.
“He does a really good job of maintaining what he’s doing but also creating a space for the family and a normal life,” Wall told The New Yorker about her husband.
Wall gave birth to their first daughter, Ingrid, in 2018.
“My life has changed a lot in the sense that there’s some sort of stable center,” Strong told GQ in 2019. “I never had that before — I was always just kind of a transient and work was the only thing. And that feels different now, in a very good way. There’s something to come home to.”
He added that his real life was nothing like his Succession character Kendall’s.
“I have a lot more love in my life than he does,” Strong said. “I feel very supported in my life — he doesn’t have any of that.”
Strong Carries a Necklace to Remind Him of His Daughters
Clara was born in November of 2019 and Agathe was born in September 2021. When Clara was almost one year old, Strong showed The Late Late Show With James Corden how he keeps his daughters with him while he’s away. He had a custom-made necklace made by a London jeweler.
“On the back is my daughter [Ingrid]’s footprint,” he said. “And then [for] my other daughter, I’ve got a bell. Her name is Clara and the bell felt sort of clear and shining and bright, which is what her name means.”
Jeremy Strong’s family doesn’t have a social media presence but it’s clear that they’re a special part of the Succession actor’s life. Asked about his brood, Strong smiled at The Guardian’s Hadley Freeman and simply said, “So three sisters.”
