Reporter Puts Condom on Mic During Hurricane Ian Live Shot

One way to go viral in this country is to try reporting live from the site of a hurricane.

Another way is to break out a condom, for just about any reason.

Put those two things together — scary weather and condoms — and you’ve got viral gold.

So it’s no surprise that’s what happened when the Southwest Florida television reporters decided to practice “safe sets” and put condoms on their mics while reporting on Hurricane Ian. Basically, they are taking no risks in making sure their equipment isn’t damaged by the wet elements around them.

Of course, once the use of condoms to cover microphones was discovered, the news stations had no choice but to fess up.

“Yes, it’s a condom. Nothing better to waterproof a microphone,” tweeted ABC 7 news anchor JFF Butera. “Moment of levity in this nasty storm.”

Butera is right. For the residents of Florida, who couldn’t use a couple of laughs right now? And hey, you have to give the TV stations credit for ingenuity. There’s no better way to protect your equipment from danger than to wrap that rascal.
