Carrie Bradshaw is Back — in Her Old Wedding Dress

Anyone who’s seen the Sex and the City movie remembers the Vivienne Westwood. Vogue gifted Carrie Bradshaw the enormous, angular, spectacular wedding dress which was eventually eschewed in favor of a simple suit. But now, that dress is getting its due. Sarah Jessica Parker was recently spotted on the streets of New York in the full wedding ensemble — blue bird included.

The Vivienne Westwood

No romantic comedy is complete without a fashion montage. And this glorious scene takes the proverbial wedding cake. In the first Sex and the City movie, the Vogue editor (played by Candace Bergen) arranges a fairy-tale photo shoot for Carrie Bradshaw who is to be featured in the magazine.

Bradshaw plays dress-up in Vera Wang, Carolina Herrera, Christian Lacroix, Dior, and Oscar De La Renta, flouncing about in cream tulle, ivory ruffles, satin gloves, and a dripping sea of pearls. In every veil imaginable, she dances about to pop music beneath a sparkling chandelier. It’s all perfectly bridal and of course, Sarah Jessica Parker looks great in everything, flaunting each look with her signature cheeky charm.

But it’s the Vivienne Westwood that really stands out. It brings a tear to even the cynical Samantha’s eye! However, the choice is a sign of bad things to come. Mr. Big (Chris Noth) gets cold feet when he realizes what a spectacle the wedding has become, from the Vogue coverage to their massive New York Public Library venue.

Also, Bradshaw’s eventual styling of the dress does not tone it down. Ever the trend-setter, she opts for something blue in the form of a massive bird hair clip nested in a fishnet veil. It’s maximal and cute and oh-so-Carrie. But she never makes it down the alter. Big breaks her heart (again).

Once Carrie and Big reconcile, they get married in City Hall. Boo. And the bride wore a dress by no one.

A Teaser

Don’t get me wrong, Carrie Bradshaw did look good in the cream-colored suit dress. (See below.) But we need more Vivienne Westwood!!! And it looks like that time may have finally come. The official Instagram account for And Just Like That…, HBO’s Sex and the City reboot, debuted an exciting photo of Carrie Bradshaw in the old get-up. “Déjà vu?” the caption read.

Another official photo shows the actress on the sidewalks of Manhattan, clutching her train. SJP looks beautiful as ever, but it makes me nervous. Don’t get that dress dirty!

Possibly, the writers have some wedding plans in store for Carrie Bradshaw. Or perhaps it is a literal stroll down memory lane for our favorite sex columnist. Either way, it’s fabulous fan service.

Sadly though, we’ll have to wait to find out more. Season 2 of And Just Like That… has no official release date, although it’s expected to begin streaming in the summer of 2023. Filming is currently underway.
