Kevin Bacon’s Career
Kevin Bacon was born on July 8, 1958. He became a household name long ago after he launched to success with his role in 1984’s Footloose. He’s known for his often gritty, serious roles in dramas and thrillers like Wild Things, Patriot’s Day, Mystic River, Apollo 13, Hollow Man, Friday the 13th, and They/Them.
Kevin is a multifaceted artist, with over 100 acting credits starting in 1978, and a dozen producer’s credits according to IMDb. He’s also directed and created soundtracks (as a writer and musician). He plays the guitar and has a band with his brother Michael, called The Bacon Brothers.
Kevin has received an extensive list of awards as well. He’s received dozens of nominations and won two Screen Actors Guild Awards, a Golden Globe, and a Saturn Award, among others. And there’s even a parlor game named after him — Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon. It’s the idea of six degrees of separation but turned into a pop cultural reference.
Kyra Sedgwick’s Career
Kyra Sedgwick was born on August 19, 1965. Like Kevin, she has an equally extensive list of acting, producing, and directing credits beginning in 1982. She’s perhaps best known for her role as Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson on TNT’s TV series The Closer.
Just like her hubby, Kyra has received dozens of nominations for awards (even more than Kevin). She’s won two Satellite Awards for Best Actress in a Series, an Emmy, a People’s Choice, and a Golden Globe, among others.
Kevin and Kyra’s Marriage
Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick married on September 4, 1988, when he was 30 and she was 23. They’ve attributed their successful marriage to respecting each other’s boundaries and respecting each other as artists.
“Kyra and I believe in each other as actors, as directors and as talent,” Kevin once told People. “She’s never been anything other than supportive of me. She doesn’t have a competitive bone in her body when it comes to me. She takes my successes as hers. I’m the same way.”
Kyra once told People that she “couldn’t have done any better” in choosing Kevin Bacon as her life partner. “I was not smart at 23, but I was smart enough to pick him. And that was the best decision I ever made.”
Kevin shared this “selfie” on Instagram earlier in the year. The couple was gorgeous then and they still are today.
The couple shares two children together, Travis and Sosie.
Travis Bacon
Travis was born on June 23, 1989. Although he has acted in a film (he played Lenny in Loverboy in 2005), Travis’ first love is music. He’s composed the music for 4 films, including Space Oddity, which was directed by his mom.
Travis is the singer for a metal band called Contracult and used to play for the White Widows Pact and Black Anvil.
He also just announced that he’s returning to acting. He is writing, shooting, scoring, and starring in a series of horror shorts, along with two friends. That project is called Slashtag Cinema.
Sosie Bacon
Sosie was born on March 15, 1992. She’s been acting since 2005 and has 31 acting credits according to IMDB. Her first film was also her brother’s first film — Loverboy. She played 10-year-old Emily. In 2014, she was crowned as Miss Golden Globe.
Sosie once told PopSugar that she doesn’t really watch her parent’s movies. The reason for this is that they were generally inappropriate when she was younger, and so she got used to not really caring. But she’d recently watched Mystic River and thought her father was “incredible in it.” Further, Sosie admitted that watching her parents in “intense roles” can be “emotional.”
And when it comes to acting, Sosie said that the entire family teaches each other. “We all talk about our acting together and collaborate,” she explained. She’s been directed by her dad and given acting advice by her mom. “They’re both really great coaches for me,” Sosie said.
Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick on Their Children’s Successes
Kevin and Kyra are both doting parents. How could they not be? They successfully raised two great-looking, talented, unique humans. But both Kevin and Kyra have expressed concern about watching their children move into the spotlight.
Kevin told The Telegraph in 2013 that he was concerned when Travis had a breakdown early on in his career.
“You’re only as happy as your least happy child,” Kevin said. “We were only thinking about the struggle… And you want your children to live a life with as little struggle as possible. You never want bad things to happen. But of course, that’s just not possible.”
Kyra said something similar to Good Housekeeping in 2017, but about daughter Sosie.
“As an actor, there is so much rejection,” Kyra said. “Kevin and I have had some painful experiences, and you don’t want your kid to go through that.
“But I want [Sosie] to follow her passion, and acting has become her passion,” she added.
