‘The Walking Dead’ Makes Surprise Rick & Michonne Announcement

Walking Dead team chose a series versus a movie.

Rick and Michonne of The Walking Dead are going to co-star in a new limited series. Actors Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira made the announcement together while appearing at the San Diego Comic-Con.

Lincoln and Gurira will be playing opposite each other in a love story about the Walking Dead characters. The show is described as:

“An epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world. Kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead… And ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they even alive — or will they find that they, too, are the Walking Dead?”

This Walking Dead Movie Is Not Happening

Lincoln left The Walking Dead in 2018 and has been expected to star in a series of movies. However, that plan was scrapped, replaced instead with this offshoot 6-episode series on AMC.

At the San Diego Comic-Con, the pair took the stage and Lincoln addressed the crowd.

“This is kind of overwhelming,” he said. “Because you are the hardest of the hardcore fans, we have something we want to tell you first.”

Gurira took over the microphone, saying “We are, Mr. Rick Grimes himself and Mr. Scott Gimple in an amazing bolo tie today, got together and have been cooking something up for you all because we missed you and we owe you the conclusion of this story of Rick and Michonne.”

Lincoln completed the announcement with, “So next year, there’s going to be six episodes on AMC+ airing in 2023, so next year there’s going to be a lot more to talk about.”
