Arizona Bicyclist Group Hit by Pickup Truck: 2 Dead, 11 Injured

A pickup truck tragically crashed into a group of bicyclists in Goodyear, Ariz., leaving two dead and 11 injured. “We are sad to update that this is a fatal crash with two confirmed deceased cyclists,” the Goodyear Police Department revealed on Facebook. “One adult female and one adult male. This crash involved a single vehicle (pick-up truck). The adult male driver remained on scene.”

According to a separate announcement, one of the cyclists who passed away was a resident of the area, while the other was a tourist from another state. The statement also noted that one of the injured cyclists was in critical condition and is facing a life-threatening situation.

Pedro Quintana-Lujan Arrested

The police department’s Facebook statement identified the driver as 26-year-old Pedro Quintana-Lujan. He has been arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including two counts of manslaughter.

“The Goodyear Police department is deeply saddened by this tragedy and extends condolences to the loved ones of the victims as well as to the cycling community and the community as a whole,” the statement noted.

Following the accident, Cotton Lane, the street where the incident occurred, was initially closed by the police. However, an update to their original Facebook post confirmed that the road has since been reopened.

The authorities stated that they are currently investigating the incident.
