Director Confirms Timothée Chalamet Will Sing as Bob Dylan

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny director James Mangold also told interviewers that he was excited to portray “such an amazing time in American culture” and to tell the story of “19-year-old Bob Dylan coming to New York with, like, two dollars in his pocket and becoming a worldwide sensation within three years.”

The biopic, titled A Complete Unknown, has been in the works since 2020. Chalamet has been intended to play Bob Dylan almost since the very beginning. The Call Me By Your Name actor told Variety in 2022 that he appreciated having extra time to get ready for the important role.

“I haven’t stopped preparing, which has been one of the greatest gifts for me,” said the actor. “It’s been a wonderful experience getting to dive into that world, whether we get to make it or not.”

By the time we see Chalamet’s performance as the iconic “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” singer, we’ll already have a pretty good idea of his singing abilities. The French Dispatch actor is also starring in a musical prequel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, simply titled Wonka. This film is expected to be released in December 2023.
