Tech Executive and Cash App Founder Bob Lee Reportedly Stabbed to Death in San Francisco

According to sources who spoke to CBS Bay Area, Bob Lee, a prominent tech executive, was fatally stabbed near downtown San Francisco early Tuesday morning. The 43-year-old served as the chief product officer of MobileCoin, a cryptocurrency startup based in San Francisco.

Prior to that, he had co-founded Cash App and had previously been the chief technology officer at Square. While MobileCoin confirmed Lee’s death, they didn’t detail the circumstances surrounding it.

“Our dear friend and colleague, Bob Lee passed away yesterday at the age of 43, survived by a loving family and collection of close friends and collaborators,” the company revealed through a statement, describing the tech mogul as “a dynamo, a force of nature … the genuine article.”  

Police responded to a report of a stabbing in San Francisco’s Rincon Hill neighborhood at approximately 2:35 a.m. on Tuesday, with the victim being transported to the hospital. Once there, he later died from his injuries, according to authorities.

As of Tuesday evening, the city’s medical examiner’s office has yet to formally identify the victim. However, friends of Bob Lee informed CBS Bay Area that he was the victim of the attack.

San Francisco police haven’t provided any information regarding any potential suspects and no arrests have been made in connection with the case.

On Twitter, numerous messages mourning Lee’s passing were shared, with many using his Twitter handle, @crazybob, to express their condolences.
