Residents in 22 states are now under winter weather alert after a huge storm is expected to bring heavy snow and high winds, according to the National Weather Service. The storm is expected to “ deliver a large swath of heavy snow from the west coast to the northern East throughout Thursday,” according to NWS.

The winter storm is set to begin in California with heavy snow accumulating and high-elevation areas such as the Sierra Nevada mountains, but there is a chance that residents in the central California Valley can also receive a light dusting of snow.
The deepening low pressure system is set to carry widespread, gusty winds as high as mph 80 across the High Plains and West States on Wednesday. The axis of heavy snow is expected to expand to South Dakota, Iowa, Wyoming, Montana, and Minnesota.
Winter Storm Set to Affect Millions
“As impressive as the snowfall event will be across the West, potentially even more impressive and impactful will be the blizzard that is expected to develop from the High Plains through the Upper Midwest, especially Wednesday and Thursday,” the NWS Weather Prediction Center stated.
Near Minneapolis, it is expected that historic snowfall could be possible. The NWS office went on to add that the storm “could very well break the top five snowfalls in the Twin Cities dating back to 1884.” Experts also stated that there is a chance of heavy rain and flash flooding in several parts of Missouri, Illinois, Michigan, and Indiana. However, across the southwest and several parts of the midwest, 150 million Americans are expected to experience Heights of over 70 degrees.
“These highly anomalous temperatures are forecast to continue later into the week,” the NWS stated on Tuesday. They were referencing the unusual cold and warmth that people experience.
