Kristin Cavallari Is Super Mad About ‘The Hills’ Reboot With Younger Cast

Last month it was announced that MTV is bringing back one of their most popular reality franchises. The Hills is being rebooted. The reboot will be called The Hills: Next Gen and it will focus on a new generation of young adults.

That means there will be a whole new cast. This news isn’t sitting well with at least a couple of the reality show’s original stars. Audrina Patridge and Kristin Cavallari have both spoken out about the reboot.

Patridge was the first to respond to the news and she did so during an interview with TalkShopLive. She said she was “shocked” by the reboot announcement and she couldn’t believe MTV was doing the new show.

“I can’t believe they’re doing this, to be honest.”

“I can’t believe they’re doing this, to be honest. We were all kind of shocked. Especially because on The Hills: New Beginnings, we had a cast of 14 and it was actually really hard to film because there were so many people and so many things going on.”

Patridge added, “I’m a little bummed out about it but I guess they want a younger generation and as you get older, you have more responsibilities and you care about your image. And we’re not in our twenties anymore, so I guess getting a new generation of kids makes sense cause they’re going to be carefree and wild.”

Cavallari backed her former co-star while co-hosting E! News’ Daily Pop. She questioned how the show could keep its name with an entirely new cast, “If they’re getting an entirely new cast, how are you even going to call it The Hills?”

The Uncommon James founder called finding out about the reboot the same way everyone else did “a slap in the face.” She continued, “I would be a little butt hurt about that too.”

Despite not being happy about the reboot, Cavallari understands why MTV is adding a younger cast.

“We’re older now, we have kids, everyone is a little bit more concerned about their image. We’re not going around doing what we did in our early 20s. They need a little bit more drama, a little bit more fun. You gotta bring in the young guns for that.”

The Hills: New Beginnings aired for two seasons from 2019 to 2021 and it starred much of the original The Hills cast. The original series aired on MTV from 2006 to 2010.
