Drew Barrymore’s First Marriage Lasted 19 Days

Okay, okay. When we said, “tie down,” we forgot to say that some knots are poorly tied. Because Barrymore’s first marriage to bar owner Jeremy Thomas only lasted 19 days. The two met at the British bar owner’s bar, The Room, in Hollywood.

Barrymore — who was dancing on tables at nightclubs by the time she was 13 — was a loyal patron of The Room. She was also underage.

“She was probably a little bit underage when she first started coming to the bar,” Thomas told RadarOnline. “But she just fit in with everyone.” Barrymore was just 19 years old at the time they met.

According to one of Thomas’s friends, Thomas, Barrymore, and 6 other people were hanging around the bar at 4 a.m. when someone joked that the two should get married. A 24-hour minister was called up and the two were wed 90 minutes later on the bar roof while a pit bull stood as the maid of honor.

Thomas told RadarOnline that he married Barrymore “because she was cute” and not “because she was Drew Barrymore.”

According to The Star, Barrymore said, “I realized my mistake on the day that I married him.” She had to leave for Arizona the next day to film Boys on the Side. According to Thomas, he got a call from her while she was in Hawaii —where they were supposed to go on their honeymoon. She dumped him and filed for divorce.

Tom Green: Like Recognizes Like?

Drew Barrymore has always been known for her jovial sense of humor. So, it should come as no surprise that she and comedian Tom Green hit it off.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Barrymore and Green met while on the set of Charlie’s Angels in 2000. According to Time, the couple was engaged for a year but their marriage only lasted 163 days. This time, it was the husband who filed the divorce papers. He filed them over the 2001 holidays in Los Angeles, citing “irreconcilable differences.”

“Drew is a wonderful woman, I love her very much,” Green said in a statement. “I wish our marriage could have worked out, I wish her much happiness.”

Green, who became famous for his work with MTV and on The Tom Green Show, brought the comedian act into his love life with Barrymore. The two continuously joked about getting married and conducted a fake wedding ceremony and break up on Saturday Night Live. They also created false pregnancy rumors to rile up the public. Barrymore also revealed to EW that Green once made her think there was a rat in her bed. He riled her up to the point where she was screaming.

Tom Green Regretted the Fake Marriage Part

Green once told The Daily Beast’s The Last Laugh podcast that he regretted the fake SNL wedding skit. The skit ended with him yelling, “I thought you loved me!” while all alone onstage, pretending to have a breakdown. Green said he would have preferred to have his “Kumbaya moment,” with the usually, joyful, end-of-the-show cast assembly.

Despite their short-lived marriage, Barrymore and Green did go through quite a lot together. They barely survived a house fire after their dog woke them up, and she supported him through his battles with testicular cancer.

The two stars still maintain a cordial friendship as well. Barrymore has hosted her ex on The Drew Barrymore Show. Just last year, the two helped a couple fans figure out their own relationship woes during the show’s “Ask a Deskpert” segment.

The One That Got Away? Drew’s Marriage to Will Kopelman

Drew Barrymore may have thought that she found “the one” when she wed Will Kopelman in 2012.

Kopelman is an actor with just a few credits under his belt. His father is businessman Arie Kopelman. Arie served as the COO and President of Chanel from 1986 to 2004. He currently serves as Chanel’s Vice Chairman of the Board.

Will Kopelman and Drew Barrymore share two daughters, Olive (10) and Frankie (8).

But alas, that marriage ended as well. The two divorced in 2016 after being married just four years.

Kopelman went on to remarry. Barrymore, too, decided that she wanted to settle down again — but this time, with herself and her daughters. She’s recently opened up about practicing celibacy.

Barrymore is also on good terms with her ex and his new wife, Alexandra (Allie) Michler, which is a beautiful thing.

While speaking with Dax Shepard on his Armchair Expert podcast, Barrymore said she felt “lucky” to have Allie in her life.

“This incredible woman Allie… I just feel like I won the lottery with her, like, I really did,” said Barrymore. “I feel like I’m lucky that there’s this new beautiful soul that came into our lives.”

She added that they all go on vacations together every now and then. She also shared that they are building their family dynamics slowly and respectfully.

“I’m just so lucky because she came into Will’s life and got to know my daughters very well and very real, saw all the warts and all the hearts, everything in between,” Barrymore told Shepard. “Literally was like, ‘I choose you’… It’s a miracle, and I know miracles exist because I was so devastated that our relationship didn’t work out because I wanted this.”
