In the early-morning hours of Monday, February 20th, authorities were called to the lineman’s home. Battery, strangulation, intimidation, domestic battery, and the use of a firearm were among the charges Staysniak was booked on.
His son, Lucas Staysniak, told authorities that he was parked on the property when his father tried to open the door to his vehicle. When he got the door open, he began attacking Lucas and the other passenger in the car.
Additional Details
The details of the encounter were provided in an affidavit from the Hendricks County Sherriff’s Department.
“Lucas advised that his father opened the rear right passenger door and that when he did his he [sic] grabbed [passenger’s] hood and was choking him,” the affidavit read. “Lucas stated that his father then punched him, causing his lip to bleed and then punched [passenger]. Lucas stated that his father then displayed a firearm and told he and [passenger] that they’re lucky he saw who it was.”
Staysniak is flipping the story. He claims that his son attacked him. According to the father, a call came in from a neighbor about a suspicious vehicle parked in the front yard.
The passenger explained to police that Lucas’ father drew a gun during the altercation. Staysniack didn’t deny the presence of a gun, but he did deny that he waved or pointed it at anyone.
John Staysniak was drafted by the San Diego Chargers as a seventh-round pick in the NFL Draft in 1990. He didn’t get a chance to play for the Chargers though. His first game wasn’t until 1991 with the Bills. He played a season with the Chiefs and then spent three years with the Colts.
