The family shared that Chapin was a triplet, and is missed terribly by his two siblings, Hunter and Mazie. Both of Chapin’s siblings also attend the University of Idaho. Chapin’s mother, Stacy Chapin, spoke to ABC News, telling a story about how Hunter recently called her in a state of unease. Stacy Chapin recalled that her son said, “Mom, I just went through the drive-thru by myself for the first time.” Stacy also said, “When you’re a triplet, you have spent your whole life together with other people.”
Remembering Ethan Chapin
Ethan Chapin’s parents have started a foundation called Ethan’s Smile, which gives scholarships to high school graduates from their hometown of Conway, Washington, and the University of Idaho students. The Chapins have also helped grow a bulb mix that has been dubbed Ethan’s Smile, which has already sold 80,000 mixes. Regarding the bulb mixes, Stacy Chapin said, “For everybody, it’s a tangible thing that represents him, and people can grow them in their yards and gardens.”
The Chapins are slowly going through the process of recovery from the devastating loss of their son. Stacy Chapin implied that the family is going through an especially tough time as the birthday of her triplets approaches. She said, “We just talked about the kids’ 21st birthday forever.” Jim Chapin, the victim’s father, said, “I just miss him. I think about him every day,” before Stacy added “I loved to hug him. I’d give anything just to be able to hug him again.”
