Being beautiful isn’t sometimes all it’s cracked up to be, according to model Emily Adonna. She went out and proved it by trying to make herself ugly.
Or at least less beautiful, as she described it. After all, being pretty means being privileged, she said. It also can mean a whole lot of unwanted attention.
Her solution? To get a nose ring and a whole bunch of tattoos, making herself less appealing. At least, that’s her theory.
“I’ve never been in a job where I haven’t been harassed. I’ve rarely been in social situations where I haven’t been harassed,” Adonna said, via the Daily Star. “People don’t usually take ‘no’ as an answer with me, because they think I’m something to be possessed.
“People do not ask before touching me in public, I am grabbed regularly. I am a beneficiary of pretty privilege. I get that but I’m f***ing tired of being pretty.”

She added that she knows many other beautiful women who are in similar predicaments. Their beauty, she said, can be a major burden.
“In many situations when I’ve shared negative experiences that have happened to me, the response is always like, ‘Well you’re a beautiful woman, you’re so pretty, you have to be careful, what were you wearing? Were you too nice? Because you’re very pretty,'” Adonna said.
“That’s the part I don’t like. I should be able to go out and be safe.”
She is right about that. And maybe the new additions to her looks will help her in that area. Clearly, she certainly hopes so. They are pretty cool-looking tattoos, might I add, so at least there’s that going for her! You gotta do what you gotta do.
