Stephen Colbert wonders how Donald Trump spent his MLK weekend

Stephen Colbert has made it known that he’s not a big fan of the incoming president. During Monday night’s monologue, he didn’t stray from that point of view.

It certainly didn’t help Donald Trump that he shot off a tweet blasting civil rights leader John Lewis.

Colbert opened his monologue by wishing a happy Martin Luther King Day to his audience, then wasted no time poking fun at Trump, making light of the fact that the president-elect cancelled his visit to the brand new African-American museum in Washington, D.C.

The late-night host then lapsed into his go-to Trump voice to read the soon-to-be commander-in-chief’s tweet. The audience, unsurprisingly, loved it. And John Baptiste offered his warm and hearty laughter.

Colbert mentioned that members of Trump’s transition team said they will remove the press from the White House; he branded them the “opposition party.” The comedian joked that this puts the free press in company with “intelligence agencies, civil rights leaders, Meryl Streep, and non-absorbent hotel mattresses.”
