A woman, identified as 26-year-old Ashleigh Sunni Mason, was arrested in Salt Lake County last week — after allegedly biting off part of her sister’s eye.
According to the Fox 11 News, the victim left eye was dripping blood when police arrived to the scene on May 27. “A portion of the eye had been torn out from under her eyelid and was outside of her eye,” reads a statement from the Unified Police Department. The arresting document also offered further gory details: “The part of the eye that was ripped out by the suspect’s teeth appeared to be the tear duct; however, due to the blood at the aid being provided to the victim, it was difficult to tell.”
The victim’s ex-husband reported the attack, saying that the suspect drunkenly assaulted his former wife. According to KSL TV, Mason had grabbed her sister’s hair to pull her in before biting her eye enough to rip part of it out.
When police arrived, Mason fled the scene but was found hiding — and screaming loudly— in a neighbor’s yard. “Ashleigh was extremely intoxicated and was screaming extremely loud, causing alarm to other residences in the area,” Officer Brandon Moore told news outlets.
Moore also located two bottles of vodka and a can of White Claw on her person — which Mason apparently downed drank before the alleged incident.
Her sister was taken Intermountain Medical Center, where, paramedics noted, she would likely see a plastic surgeon. Mason, meanwhile, was arrested on three charges: aggravated assault, disorderly conduct, and intoxication.
