Former ‘Bewitched’ Star Interested In Series Reboot

We tried to list all of the reboots and fell short. We missed National Treasure, Password, Scooby-Doo and plenty of others… because there are so many! Now, we are talking about bringing back Bewitched.

Well, Erin Murphy is talking about bringing back Bewitched … so we are, too.

Murphy, of course, Tabitha, in the original run of the show. She played the daughter of Samantha on the show from 1964-1972. In the spinoff, Tabitha, she did not reprise the role. Though, she says, now it would be different.

“There’s been a lot of talks, basically my entire life, about doing a Bewitched reboot,” she told Fox. “I think if the script were ever great that it should be done.”

“I would be open to the idea.”

There have been other attempts to bring back the franchise, though none have quite landed correctly.

Most recently, in 2021, Sony Pictures announced that a film adaptation was in early development. Variety reported that producers John Davis and John Fox as well as screenwriters Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett were signing on for the project. There have not been updates on the project.

Perhaps, most famously, in 2005 the Bewitched movie was released. It had megastars Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell attached, but also fell flat. It tried to twist the original plot into a reboot of the reboot. Farrell was cast in the remake of a tv series and then goes on to learn that his co-star is an actual witch.
