98-year-old Former US President Jimmy Carter is set to begin receiving hospice care, according to a statement from The Carter Center.

“After a series of short hospital stays, former US President Jimmy Carter today decided to spend his remaining time at home with his family and receive hospice care instead of additional medical intervention,” the statement read.
It said he has the full support of his medical team and family, which “asks for privacy at this time and is grateful for the concern shown by his many admirers.”
Back in August 2015, Carter had a small cancerous mass removed from his liver. In 2016 he had announced he lucikly needed no further treatment as an experimental drug had eliminated signs of cancer.
Carter, who is a Democrat, became the 39th U.S. President after he defeated President Gerald R. Ford back in 1976. After serving a single term, he was defeated by Republican Ronald Reagan in 1980.
