People just can’t help themselves when it comes to getting too close to wild animals. Oftentimes, it’s wild animals that are bigger than them, wild animals with antlers.

Why do it? Because sometimes, we’re not much smarter than the wild animals with which we are fascinated.
The latest example comes from the Rocky Mountain region, where one man was caught on video taking pictures and/or video of an elk — who just happened to spot antlers the size of Wyoming. Not really, but you get the idea.
As the man took the video, he himself was also being recorded, by someone from a safe distance. “Please kill him,” a woman’s voice could be heard saying, as if she had picked a side in the looming battle of Elk vs. Man with Phone.
And guess what? The elk nearly did kill him. Or clearly at least thought about it.

On the bright side for the guy, the elk didn’t appear to be too serious. It didn’t seem like it was going in for the kill either. He just wanted to be left alone and used his antlers to get his point across.
As the elk chased away the man, the woman’s voice can be heard cheering. Yes, she was rooting for the elk.
Moral of the story: The elk had more compassion than the woman, and he was the guy with the antlers. But more than that, all of this can be avoided if we just allow wild animals to be wild — and respect that wildness.
If we let them all be wild, we wouldn’t have dogs. However we should have enough sense to stay away from bull elks.
Dogs kill the most people in the country.
