Reese Witherspoon went to someone else’s wedding — but took home the best gift.
The actor revealed as much on her friend Kerry Washington’s Street You Grew Up On podcast last week. Reese Witherspoon reminisced about how she began developing a relationship with director James Mangold (Logan, 3:10 to Yuma).
“I met him at a wedding,” she said, according to Today. “We were at a wedding and he goes, ‘Hey, you’re from Nashville, aren’t you?’ And I was like, ‘I am. Yeah.’ And he goes, ‘Do you know who June Carter is?'”
Joaquin Pheonix and Reese Witherspoon Perform Jackson
Reese Witherspoon’s answer was clearly impressive enough, as she got booked as June Carter Cash for the 2005 biopic Walk the Line. It featured Johnny Cash (Joaquin Phoenix) and June Carter Cash (Witherspoon), two strong-willed artists who shared a love story that was the stuff of myth.
The movie made $186.8 million on a budget of $28 million. Witherspoon won the Academy Award for Best Actress.
