Why Christine Baranksi Hates Elon Musk

I mean, really, does she need to explain herself? Elon Musk, the controversial tech tycoon, has enemies everywhere, from Twitter execs to the trans community. So when Baranski passed him at the Met Gala, she couldn’t help letting her feelings show. And, being a seasoned actress, Baranski’s expressive eye contact got the message across.

Although the photo isn’t quite recent, an interview published yesterday in Entertainment Weekly shed light on Baranski’s disdain for Musk. Speaking to the magazine, she explained that she did not pose for the picture and so the moment captured is, hilariously, quite genuine. Baranski said:

“The funny thing is I have no memory of turning back and glaring at him, but I was actually dissing him as I was waiting in line to go to dinner. I was with someone who was at my table, and I noticed Elon Musk and I went, ‘Oh my God, it’s Elon Musk.’ I basically said [to my friend], ‘I don’t know how you feel about him, but why is he spending billions of dollars in space when he could be cleaning up the planet?’ I’m an environmentalist. I must have at some point turned back and looked, but I did not pose for that picture.”

Fair enough, Christine!

Talking Musk with Meyers

Christine Baranski is an accomplished actress. Since finding fame — and an Emmy — on Cybill during the mid-90s, she’s starred in The Good Wife, the Mama Mia! movies, and, recently, Gilded Age. She appearing on Late Night with Seth Meyers las month to plug the Good Wife spin-off The Good Fight when conversation turned, again, to that powerful Met Gala moment.

As she explains to Meyers, she received a framed version of the Musk photo from her daughter from Mother’s Day. (That’s what’s pictured in the tweet above.) She also goes on to relate Musk’s position to that of her character on the, aptly titled, Gilded Age. On the show, her character embodies “The idea that people can buy their way into society and change the world because they have money.”

  1. I don’t really watch Seth Meyers show but I saw this video with Christine Baranski and I was enjoying the show until Seth said something about Pres. Trumps leaving an odor, it turned me off and clicked exit asap. He is nasty and odorous himself. No wonder nobody watches his talk show.

  2. Trump tried to stage a coup and get his vice president murdered and two people are sticking up for him?
That is a sign of serious cognitive issues.

    • Condemning Musk is the result of serious ignorance and shortsightedness. Spending money on space is an investment in the future of humanity. If Musk chooses to do that, more power to him. Far more money than he has is wasted on activities and projects with more frivolity than space research. To condemn Musk because he doesn’t have exactly the same notion of what’ s important as you do is the ultimate in narrow mindedness. Musk is helping the environment by developing electric vehicles which may become the biggest thing being done for the planet. His satellites are bringing internet to the remotest rural areas of the planet. He’s tried to solve nationwide traffic congestion with pneumatic tube people movers. What’s this shotty actress done for the world?

  3. SHOTTY?!! How can anyone take you seriously when you spell shoddy incorrectly? and what exactly have you done for the world?

  4. Let’s all be honest. If Musk were being taxed properly, he wouldn’t be able to waste money on space. (At the same time, NASA would be properly funded and the US would have healthcare.)

  5. If that’s her losing her shit I am REALLY quite sure Elon would absolutely hate to be around her when she goes apeshit crazy…..
