Untapped Potential

In a sit down with Dr. Peggy Kleinplatz, a professor from the University of Ottawa, the calamities of simple sensualities can be revealed in the most common sexual intimacy issues in relationships.

Kleinplatz names desire as one of the main roots of the problem. The professor states that couples need to find a balance in one another’s libidos. That, and just generally bad sex.

“It’s rational to have a low desire for undesirable sex,” Dr. Kleinplatz states.

She goes on to say that couples should focus on the overall enjoyment of sex rather than reaching a climax or orgasm. She describes sex as partners being “in sync” with one another. To know your partner’s body and what might please them in the throws of intimacy.

Better Rhythms

The doctor offers viable solutions for achieving such harmony. Things like ample communication, mutual trust, vulnerability, and taking risks together can all be key players in elevating your sexual experience.

The therapist went on to explain that a great and healthy sex life is something that needs time, patience, and dedication. How morsels of pleasure cannot be mere happenstance.

“The reality is that extraordinary lovers choose to devote time and energy to this most valued of their pursuits,” she said. “That’s a crucial lesson for all of us. Great lovers are made, not born.”
