Brazilian influencer Diana Assis captured the mayhem on video and shared it on her TikTok, initially poking fun at the turbulence when it first hit. Things seemed to take a turn for the worse after that, though.

The flight was operated by TAAG Angola Airlines, and per reports, eight of the 10 injured required immediate medical attention.

Lunch was being served at the time of the turbulence, which hit about two hours after takeoff, Assis said.

“It only lasted a few seconds but it was enough to leave some people injured and the crew provided first aid before landing,” she added.

Per TAAG, the turbulence was caused by “adverse atmospheric conditions” as the plane flew over the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The plane landed in Lisbon where rescue personnel arrived to take care of those injured. A doctor was also reportedly on board to help before the plane could land.

“TAAG had been banned from flying aircrafts into the European Union in 2007 due to safety concerns, with the company launching major overhauls to reverse the decision,” the New York Post wrote. “It remained partly banned until April 2019, when all restrictions were lifted following several policy relaxations.”
