Social media users are coming down hard on Tampax after the tampon company sent out a tweet that is being referred to as flat-out “gross” and “vulgar” by some.

“You’re in their DMs. We’re in them. We are not the same,” Tampax wrote in the tweet. The reference, of course, is based on the idea of “slipping into someone’s DMs,” which is based on sending someone you don’t really know a flirtatious private message on social media.

“Real weird for a company that sells products made for woman’s natural bodily functions to make a tweet sexualizing woman for using their products …” wrote one user who called for someone’s job. “lmfaooo fire ur social media manager, this is gross.”
That seems a bit over the top, but that is social media for you. At the same time, it’s easy to see how some people found the tweet to be, well, less-than-classy.
“It never ceases to amaze me how brands are so ready to alienate their core demographic,” wrote another user. “It’s certainly an interesting business strategy.”
Then the user concluded with three simple words. “You. Are. Gross,” the tweet also read.
You. Are. Gross.
Tampax was light-hearted in handling the negative reaction, retweeting the original tweet with a comment that read, “refused to let Twitter shut down before we shared this tweet.”
People were upset publicly, so you can only imagine what the feedback may have been from those who slipped into the company’s DMs. In all seriousness, this IS pretty funny, just think about it. Props to the social media person, because he managed to give some people a little chuckle. Ah, you have to love the internet sometimes, you never know what you might find.
