Woman Arrested for Trying to Buy Another Woman’s Baby in Walmart’s Self-Checkout

You can buy many things at Walmart, but other people’s children are not for sale. A woman was just arrested for trying to purchase another woman’s baby while in a Walmart self-checkout line in Crockett, Texas.

The woman, identified as 49-yr-old Rebecca Taylor, allegedly approached the mother of two and started talking about the children. She then offered the mother $250,000 for her younger child. When the mother refused, Taylor upped the offer to $500,000.

The Messenger broke the story in January.

According to police reports, Taylor “… began commenting on her son’s blonde hair and blue eyes. She asked how much she could purchase him for. (The mom) tried to laugh this comment off, thinking Taylor was joking. Taylor told her that she had $250,000 in the car and she would pay that much for him. (The mom) told her no amount of money would do.”

When the mom refused to sell her one-year-old to the stranger, Taylor started talking loudly and made the mom uncomfortable enough to call the cops. The mom recalled that Taylor was with another woman of Hispanic origin, who joined in the strange conversation.

The strange women seemed to know her son’s name although she didn’t recall telling them what it was. It’s unclear if they’d overheard the mom call the boy by his name or if they knew for more nefarious reasons.

Strangers Followed Mom to Walmart Parking Lot, Parked Black SUV Next to Her Car

After waiting for the strangers to leave Walmart, the mom then dashed to her vehicle and locked her children inside. Police reports say that the two strangers followed her to her vehicle, where they had a black SUV parked beside it. There, Taylor was screaming about how she wanted the boy and was willing to pay $500,000.

Police reviewed surveillance footage to confirm the mom’s story. They found Taylor at her house, where Officer Price said Taylor continued her bizarre behavior.

“She told me that she doesn’t like thieves, then she stated I could speak with her attorney and to get off her ‘precipice.’ She slammed the door shut,” Price says in her affidavit.

Taylor was arrested and charged with the third-degree felony of sale or purchase of a child. She was kept at the Houston County Jail then subsequently released on a $50,000 bond. She faces 2 to 10 years of prison time as well as a $10,000 fine.

Selling and purchasing children is no joke. Only a monster would sell their child to a stranger, or to anyone for that matter. It’s unclear if Taylor was just out of her mind or if this was a serious operation that could have landed the child on the dark web or someplace worse. Keep your kids close, folks.
